Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now collaborating with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hard court since that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on court had prompted observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to advance forward and perform positively, backed up by an better serve.

He recovered from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He defended 4 initial chances in a competitive final set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
